San Fruttuoso

In the heart of the Park of Portofino, reachable only either by sea or on foot walking through steep mule- tracks and coast trails, you arrive at the bay of San Fruttuoso Capodimonte: a unique and outstanding spot.

This tiny fishing village developed around the homonymous buildings of the Benedictine monks, starting about the year 1000. Later it became a protectorate of the Dukes Doria of Genova, whose beautiful tower is still showing along with some of their family tombs inside de abbey. It is today part of the architecture patrimony in the hands of Fondo per l’Ambiente Italiano (FAI).

In the bay facing the village as deep as 15 meters under water there is the famous bronze statue of Christ of the Abyss a required destination for all the lovers of under water world.
